As you are almost certainly aware, our village hall does not reach current health and safety regulations and in the not-too-distant future we will not be able to use it. We have only outside toilets with cold water and only very limited access for the elderly and disabled. Market research shows overwhelming support for a new purpose-built community hall. Plans have been drawn up and an application for planning, which should be sucessful, has already been made. As you can imagine the cost of building a new hall is high, and it is hoped that the money will come from the Lottery Community Fund and other local sources. In January 06, after many meeting and much negotiation,  Exeter City Council have pledged £220,000 towards the new community centre. A city council spokesman said: "Councillors were impressed with the professional approach of the community association, which had worked hard to bring together existing community groups to build this project for the whole of Countess Wear"

Almost £45,000 has already been raised by the Village Hall Fund Raising Team. These activities have been as varied as a Party in the Park, Slave Auction, Soap Box Hill Climb, Curry & Quiz Nights, Complementary Therapy Days, regular music and entertainment plus lots more. Look out for forthcoming events.
